Thousands pack Bloomfield Stadium for 'Black Eyed Peas' concertThis summer's musical performances opened Saturday night in Tel Aviv with a polished performance by the hip-hop group, the "Black Eyed Peas." Judging by the packed audience at the Bloomfield Stadium, one might have thought this was a celebration for the end of the second intifada. Six years have seen almost no live performances here whatsoever and now some of the largest attractions are on their way here: from the New York rapper 50 Cent, to the veteran rock stars Roger Waters and Sting, and bands Pink Floyd and Depeche Mode. Israel has become a legitimate, and almost safe, stop for them all.

A mixture of beauty and beatsThese days one can find hip-hop artists around the world with diverse ethnic backgrounds and family histories, but it is rare to find one who is the son of two former kibbutz members. Such is the case with Boston-based hip-hop artist Edan Portnoy. His last album, Beauty and the Beat, released earlier this year, stands out due to the original sounds he creates by infusing rock and roll and psychedelic music with hip-hop beats and sounds.
